Priscilla A. Furth, MD, is a physician-scientist
and professor of oncology and medicine studying cancer genetics
in the laboratory who also enjoys providing fitness and
metabolism consults for cancer survivors in the Lombardi
Comprehensive Cancer Center clinic.
In the laboratory, Dr. Furth works in the areas of disease
pathogenesis, cancer and development with an emphasis on
improving our understanding of disease pathophysiology in
order to improve strategies for cancer prevention. Her current
research focuses on understanding estrogen-signaling-induced
initiation and progression of breast cancer at the molecular
level in order to develop strategies to reverse it.
in May 2010, Dr. Furth contracted with NCS
Storage Engineering for storage and backup
for approximately five terrabytes of important laboratory
data. This data is mangaged and protected in UIS's new Laurel
Data Center, for a yearly fee, and available for analysis
by Dr. Furth and her staff.
"The system has worked well," Dr. Furth says,
" and I intend to renew my yearly contract with NCS."
