The first step in preparing a grant is to contact
the Sponsored Programs departments for either the Main
Campus or the Medical
Center
If your proposal requires
Enterprise IT technologies, then please contact.
Steve Moore (Email: moores@georgetown.edu
or call at (202) 687- 5420 for a technology consultation)
or contact the UIS Help Desk at 202-687-4949 immediately
after you begin the grants or contracts process with Sponsored Programs.
The attention to describing technology components which include
enterprise services should improve your chances for the best grant
score, and will demonstrate that the university's best IT practices
and institutional security safeguards are embedded in your grant
proposal.
General Description of Resources:
Copy and paste the below general IT resources description
in RESEARCH & RELATED Other Project Information section
on grants and contracts:
University
Information Services (UIS) is
charged with providing technology services, access to information,
and supporting administrative systems for the faculty, students,
staff, and administration of Georgetown University. In addition,
UIS is responsible for creating a technology infrastructure
to support electronic communication -- voice, video, and
data -- now and into the future. UIS operates under the
direction of the Vice President for Information Services
and Chief Information Officer (CIO), with guidance from
various advisory groups.
UIS Research Technology services
include enterprise institutional IT support for
server and database hosting, secure data storage and sharing,
comprehensive data backup and recovery services, and high
performance computing (HPC) shared resources. The Georgetown
University Information Security Office provides computer
and network security and policies (http://security.georgetown.edu/).
All equipment and resources are housed in a secure,
managed data center (Laurel
Data Center). Georgetown University networks
connect to the public Internet via a Gigabit link, and to
Internet2's IP network via Mid-Atlantic Crossroads. |
HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING
|
This
project requires high performance computational
(HPC) resources and expertise for computationally
intensive research , administered by the Network and Computing
Services (NCS) division of University Information Services.
This service is part of Georgetown University’s central,
institutional research data framework, and follows university
security requirements (http://security.georgetown.edu/47207.html).
The NCS shared cluster is the first system on campus to
use low latency, high bandwidth networking and parallel,
clustered storage.
Two levels of service are available
on the new University purchased shared-use cluster:
Standard Account: Users purchase CPU hours on the
main system with no restrictions, at $.05 per core/hour.
Basic Account*: Users use a limited set of resources with
restrictions (5000 hours at $125 per year).

ENTERPRISE DATA STORAGE
This
project requires enterprise data storage
resources and expertise, administered by the Network and
Computing Services (NCS) division of University Information
Services. This services is part of Georgetown University's
central, institutional research data framework, and follows
university security requirements (http://security. georgetown.edu/47207.
html)
Approximately (insert amount of storage
in gigabytes or terabytes) will be required for the period
of this award. The cost is approximately: $1 per gigabyte,
with backup but not disaster recovery or $2 per gigabyte,
with backup and disaster recovery. |
SERVER HOSTING /VIRTUALIZATION
This
project requires virtualized IT hosting environment
resources and expertise administered by the Network and
Computing Services (NCS) division of University Information
Services. This virtualization saves on overall IT costs
by consolidating resources, delivered on university managed
virtualized (shared) servers , and improves the security,
efficiency, and availability of resources, data, and applications.
These services are part of Georgetown University's central,
institutional research data framework, and follow university
security requirements (http://security. georgetown.edu/47207.html)
